about

KON TIKI
by The Stokers
The surf instrumental Kon Tiki was recorded at home, in 1963, on a Loewe Opta reel to reel tape recorder. This recording reveals that The Stokers were early purveyors of garage rock.

Garage rock, according to Wikipedia, is a raw and energetic style of rock and roll that flourished in the mid-1960s most notably in Canada and the United States. The style is characterized by basic chord structures played on electric guitars by bands that were often made up of amateurs. These bands often rehearsed in the family garage, or, in the case of The Stokers, the family rec room. (Sure, we could call this 'Rec Room Rock' but it's not nearly as cool as calling it Garage Rock!)
